My Journey

I started my doctorate at Capella University with a personal mission: to gain the knowledge-base and leadership skills necessary to obtain a leadership position in an education-focused entity and to become a university professor. Originally trained as a filmmaker, I have spent the last eleven years in education, working in a variety of roles and settings. As a recruiter and college preparation program coordinator, I had the opportunity to develop recruiting and college readiness initiatives. Following my three year stint in Boston, in which I recruited the most diverse summer teaching staff for New England Citybridge and designed and developed the college admissions and mentoring program for GEAR UP/UMASS Boston, I returned to The University of Southern Mississippi to pursue a second bachelor’s in Child and Family Studies. With the plan of becoming a program director for a community-based organization, I earned a master’s in Professional Studies in Education.

My long term goal is to become the director of Continuing Education at an urban university. I want to be a part of an adult education program whose mission it is to get people excited about the direction of their lives. From yoga or cooking, to job training,or home ownership courses, my focus is on people development and to provide a positive and nurturing space in which individuals can discover the best within themselves.
