Women In STEM with Cassandra Reese

On this episode of The Dr. Will Show, I hangout with Cassandra Reese and we chat about her experiences as a woman in STEM.

Cassandra Reese received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of San Diego in 2014. She then moved to Hattiesburg, MS in fall 2014 to pursue her Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Derek Patton at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her works focuses on polymer surfaces, which can be applicable to a variety of applications (tunable adhesives, flexible electronics, antiwetting surfaces). Cassandra is strongly involved in campus and community outreach activities. Specifically, Cassandra served as the President for the Women in Science and Organization (WISE) organization at USM from 2016-2017, and the Vice President from 2017-present. The mission of WISE at USM is to retain and empower women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by offering mentoring, support, and inspiration. During her WISE presidency, she was involved in submitting a grant through USM Foundation, titled “Retention of Women in STEM”, which ultimately got funded. This grant allowed the WISE officers to host their 1st Annual WISE Conference: WISE with RISE, The Power of You!
