Rachael Mann is a speaker, TEDx coach, education consultant, and founder of #TeachlikeTED, an organization that provides teachers, leaders, and students with tools for presentation literacy. Rachael uses her voice and her expertise to broaden the conversation around education reform and to amplify the voices of teachers and students. Prior to #TeachlikeTED, Rachael was the STEM and Technology Professional Learning Director for Northern Arizona University's AZK12 Center and State Director for Educators Rising Arizona. A former high school Career and Technical Education teacher and hailing from a family of educators, she has 14 years of classroom teaching experience. Rachael is a Google Certified Educator with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
On this episode, I hangout with Dr. Julie Cwikla and we chat about increasing diversity in STEM. Director of Creativity & Innovation in STEM at the University of Southern Mississippi, housed in the Office of the Vice President for Research. The mission of her work is to investigate questions of national and international significance, by bringing research funds into the region to benefit and improve STEM learning opportunities.
Dr. Cwikla holds a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education, with a minor in Applied Mathematics from the University of Delaware and studied under the direction of Dr. James Hiebert. She also holds a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Chemistry from Fairfield University. Julie has been awarded over $12 million dollars in external funds to support her ongoing research in STEM education and research from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Education, NASA, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, among others.

After finally recognizing she belonged in education, Shawn Berry Clark entered an alternative teaching certification program. As an alumna of the University of South Carolina, Shawn’s academic degrees include a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology, a Master's of Education in Early Childhood, a Master's of Education in Education Administration, and a PhD in Education Administration. Her career moves include being a teacher at USC Children's Center and Webber Elementary School, and an administrator at Saluda Middle School for 11 years. Shawn was Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Saluda County Schools for almost 5 years and currently serves as a Transformation Coach for the South Carolina Department of Education.
Shawn is the co-author of the book Using Quality Feedback to Guide Professional Learning: A Framework for Instructional Leaders. and she consults with Daniel Venables for the Center for Authentic PLCs and Grapple Institutes. As a two-time high school dropout, Shawn knows the meaning of not having a quality education and has devoted her life to making school the best possible experience for all students.

Ginain’s primary focus has been to continually increase the district’s brand awareness and to promote and position schools as effectively as possible. She has daily oversight of online communication platforms, marketing campaigns, social media, digital content, and various district initiatives. She plays a vital role in launching various district-led programs and initiatives including culture building and strategic planning. Her creativity allows her to successfully position senior staff as thought leaders and content experts at conferences and speaking engagements for educators and community stakeholders.
Her career includes extensive and successful experience in corporate communications, graphic design, marketing and public relations in industrial, non-profits and business management industries.
Ginain holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Advertising & Design from the Academy of Design & Technology and a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. A true creative and designer at heart, she enjoys visual arts and retouching old photos in Photoshop, her favorite software!

Before her international adventure, Carlie Stigler was a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade multi-age teacher at Fond du Lac STEM Academy in Fond du Lac Wisconsin. She attended Carroll University and received her bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Special Education with a minor in Early Childhood. During her student teaching experience, Carlie participated in a yearlong residency program within the Hartland Lakeside School District. This opportunity allowed her to engage and grow in working with teachers and students, developing habits of a reflective and collaborative educator. As Carlie continues to grow as an educator and learner, she is excited to be a part of the changes in our education system that need to occur to meet the interests and demands of our world.
